In a Nutshell

The Adams Farm Trails is a satellite location of Rogers Environmental Education Center. It offers hiking, cross-country skiing, and catch-and-release fishing. Two lean-tos are available with a camping permit. A series of boardwalks and bridges and a scenic pond are worth exploring.

Location and Parking

Your GPS system may not know "Adams Farm Trails" but it surrounds the West Hill Cemetary, Sherburne NY if you want a landmark. There are two parking locations. A DEC marked lot off State Highway 80 (to east of the Cemetary), and then another lot off Williams Road (aka Country Route 23), north of the Cemetary. There is space for about five cars in each lot.

If you're familiar with Rogers Environmental Education Center, Adams Farm satellite is just under a mile west of the Center on New York Highway 80.

More detail

The Adams Farm parcel of Rogers Center is located just under a mile west from the Rogers Environmental Education Center, on NY Highway 80. This parcel has hiking trails, portions of which are suitable for cross-country skiing. There are also two lean-tos available to camping with a permit. There is access to a pond for catch and release. There appear to have been trails to the Chenango River at one time, but these did not appear to be maintained, but one could bushwhack if one wanted.

From the parking lot off Highway 80, there is a short decline and then it is relatively flat. This section is mowed and connects to "service roads" which are mostly wide mowed paths that go along the ponds. There is also the Woods Trail which is narrow and overgrown at spots, but also has several convenient boardwalks and bridges to keep you out of the muck and gets you across a stream that feeds in the Chenango River. The pond to the west is split by a berm which gives scenic views of the pond. As the water moves east, the land becomes marsh-like until flowing into the stream crossed by the Woods trail. A portion of the trails go through a large stand of Hemlocks.

Unlike the main site, the Center, Adams Farm has much less foot traffic and has a more secluded feeling.

History

I'm not sure where the name "Adams" comes from. There was a Civilian Conservation Corps camp, Company 207 that was located here. Here is a picture from September 24, 1935.

Rogers Environmental Education Center:

The Center was originally the first NY Game Farm in 1909 and is now managed by Friends of Rogers non-profit. It offers various programs, over 2 miles of trails, and much to explore.

Cush Hill Trails Satellite:

Cush Hill Trails is south of the Center and accessible from Cush Hill Road which is a seasonal road. There is about three miles of trails. Of note here is work trying to save American Chestnuts. Of the various Rogers Center trails, this has the greates elevation changes.

Farm Tower Trails:

I don't consider this a satellite since it's right across the street. There is, however, a separate trail map.
