In a Nutshell

Getting to it is half the challenge. But once there, relatively flat trails take you through a variety of landscapes in a secluded area. Acres of wildflowers, vernal ponds, and lovely woods.

Location and Parking

The trailhead is off Logan Hill Road, which is a seasonal road. Some have commented that it is generous to even call it a "seasonal road". And at the trailhead, there isn't a parking lot. Cars without good ground clearance should consider alternate parking, such as Moyer Park in Candor. Note for some GPS systems, the driving directions for Moyer Park take  you to Park Drive across the Cantatonk Creek for the park. You want to go to Academy Street and look for the sign for Moyer Park or use this Google Maps link.  The walk from Moyer Park is approximately one mile and gains about 400 feet of elevation.

More details

The Logan Hill Preserve is one of the Finger Lakes Land Trust (FLLT) preserves. The habitats on this preserve span across old and new forest and open fields, some being reclaimed by nature along with several vernal ponds. The Catatonk Creek borders a portion of the Preserve on the east. This diverse habitat allows for a diverse bird population.

There is a 15-acre private conservation land segment within the Logan Hill. The original Preserve was a gift from the Darlington Family of 285 acres in 1990. The FLLT added another sixty-three acres in 2020.

There are two trails off Logan Hill Road. What most people consider the trailhead is the eastern one. This trail heads north along the ridge that drops steeply towards Candor.  After a jog to the west, it continues north the length of the Preserve and then bends and heads back south coming out again on Logan Hill Road. There is a path that connects the long trail, passing by a pond.
