A graduate of Johnson City High School. William WIlson enlisted in the Army on March 17, 1941. He trained at Fort Lee, Virginia and Camp Livingston, Louisiana. From there he was assigned to duty in Australia in April 1942. He served in the 107th Medical Battalion of the 32nd Infantry Division. He was involved in action at Saidor and Aitape in New Guinea, and on Leyte and Luzon islands of the Philippines. He was killed in action May 9, 1945 on the Luzon Island of the Philippines. His body was returned in 1948 for burial in Riverhurst Cemetery. He was survived by his mother Mary E Wilson of Johnson City; two sisters, Mrs. Howard A. Bolte of Johnson City and Mrs. Richard Bennett of Wilmington, Delaware; and two brothers, Ward F. Wilson of Buffalo and Gordon P. Wilson of Johnson City. 

Days before his death, he wrote his family that he was being moved to a rear area and thought he might be discharged soon.
