William Thorne enlisted in the Army in May 1942. Thorne was with the 67th Artillery Regiment. He died February 24, 1944 in a hospital in Italy from wounds received in combat three days earlier. He participated in the Tunisian and Sicilian campaigns. He was survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Philo Thorne of Greene. He is buried in Nettuno, Italy.
