Charles Pero enlisted on August 10, 1942 in the Army Air Corps. He was the son of Clifford Pero and Mabel Carter Pero. He served as a Gunner on B-24 #43-73245. On November 27, 1943, his plane was shot down and crashed near Rangoon, Myanmar (Burma). He was reported missing and then presumed dead after not returning from the mission.
Sergeant Pero is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China. And buried in the Chenango Valley Cemetery, Binghamton, Broome County, New York. He was survived by his wife Margaret, formerly from Johnson City.
