Of the fifty-seven men from IBM Endicott that would die in World War 2, Leonard Landon would be the first to enlist. Boatsman's Mate 2nd class Leonard Landon was a coxswain on a landing craft during the Normandy invasion. He was killed in action June 6, 1944. He is buried in Normandy. He was a graduate of Johnson City High School. He enlisted on January 8, 1941. He trained at Sampson US Naval Training Center and with amphibious forces at Fort Pierce, Florida before being sent overseas on December 10, 1943. He was survived by his wife L.B. Landon of Johnson City; his parents Mr. & Mrs. Fred C. Landon of Johnson City; brother Pfc Clarence H. Landon (Air Force) and two sisters, Mrs. Alton Liker of Johnson City, NY and Mrs. Walter Heffner of Chester, PA.
